Stunningly, heartbreakingly brilliant. Beautifully written. ( )

This is a lovely telling of the author’s meeting, relationship, and marriage to her husband, Miles, an Army Apache pilot, and the first years following his death as she finally starts to reclaim her own life. Her writing is clear, honest, and to-the-point, but always deeply felt. ( )

This is the story of Miles and Artis Henderson’s marriage and how Artis deals with the death of Miles while on deployment in Iraq. It definitely makes you think about how you would deal with his death if you were in her shoes. It also makes you look at what is most important in life. I did not always agree with how Artis handled things, but each person grieves differently. There is no time limit on grief or rules on how to get through it. Artis shares her deepest pain and her struggle to move on. Honest, raw, encouragement. ( )

Touching memoir. Thought provoking insight into the devastating experience of military widows. What is just a blurb on the news to us is life changing reality for them! The military and their families deserve more than we can ever give them. Thank you Artis for sharing your experience and emotions with us. ( )

I chose this book because the nephew of a friend was the last man injured (very severely) in Afghanistan before the US troops were removed, and I wanted to see what the "other side" would have been for his family had he died (as he so easily could have but for the instant intervention of a medic). Of course, no experience is going to be the same, but the military machinery involved would have been very comparable and since both the soldier and his wife were well known in the military community, the reactions of the family services would have been alike. This book gave me a good idea of what his wife and family would have suffered. This book is well written and a compulsive read. The reader quickly bonds with Artis and Miles. I felt great sympathy for them and the other family involved. Such a tragedy. I thought it was very interesting that Artis sought the counsel of mediums and psychics both before and after she met and married Miles. That certainly added another layer to her personality. ( )
