I teamed up a few times and laughed out loud. If I were in a z-movie apocalypse, I’d want Cassie and her family on my side!! ( ) May 28, 2015 oh look... another post-apocalyptic book with a protagonist named Cassie. YAWN And there's zombies. YAWN And her ex-boyfriend is a jerk YAWN I read half the book waiting for ANYTHING original to show up, and I just cannot do it anymore. My reading time is too precious to spend it bored to tears. So lately I’ve been reading book genres that don’t normally end up on on my TBR list. And while I’ve enjoyed a lot of ‘end of the world’ books before, this is the first I can remember that includes zombies. And I must say, the zombie apocalypse is pretty exciting! Cassie is living in NYC and finally summoning the courage to end her relationship with Peter. Unfortunately, a virulent virus that has been sweeping the country has shown up in New York, and hospitals are being overwhelmed. As she and her friends watch their neighborhood quickly deteriorating, they get news that the bridges into the city are about to be closed down and are warned to flee while they still can. Soon, they’re just trying to keep one step ahead of the walking dead. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this novel. The story is very compelling and I found it hard to put down, wanting to constantly keep reading. (The chapters are short and for a couple of days I’d pull it up on the computer at work intending to read one chapter, and not stopping until I’d read 3 or 4.) One thing that kind of surprised me - in a good way! - was that the story wasn’t constant fighting action, and yet the drama the small group faced was enough to keep me hanging on every page. Instead, we see the real struggles and successes faced by a group of people very fortunate to have some skills and means to survive, and it makes for a much more balanced story. Kudos to Sarah Lyons Fleming on a very well-written novel! And the way she weaves in the details of the prepper lifestyle makes me want to plant my vegetable garden and learn how to preserve food for the zombie apocalypse. I can’t wait to read the next in the series! keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen

Cassie Forrest is not surprised to learn that the day she has decided to get her life together is also the day the world ends. After all, she has been on a self-imposed losing streak since her survivalist parents died. She has stopped painting, broken off her engagement to Adrian and dated a real jerk. Rectifying her mistakes has to wait, however, because Cassie and her friends have just enough time to escape Brooklyn for her parents cabin before Bornavirus LX turns them into zombies, too. This is difficult enough, but Cassie has a tag along old boyfriend and her friend has a bratty sister who have a knack for making everything, even the apocalypse, more unpleasant. When the two attract a threat as deadly as the undead to their safe haven, Cassie is forced to see how far she will go to protect those she loves. Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |
