I enjoyed reading "Pre-and Re-, Mis- and Dis- What is a Prefix? by Brian Cleary for three reasons. First, I think that the author does an excellent job breaking down and explaining what a prefix is (ex. prefixes are word parts that we add onto a word. They're right at the beginning. The author then lists examples). Second, I liked how the author color-coded the prefixes in a word to make them stand out (ex. in the words pregame and unheard, the author made the pre and un a dark pink and game and heard are a light pink. Third, the illustrations are funny which makes reading the text even more interesting (ex. for the word defrost, there is a picture of a hippo stuck inside an ice cube and using a hair dryer to melt the ice). "Pre- and Re-, Mis-, and Dis- What is a Prefix? is a book intended for children to explain what a prefix is in a fun and creative way. The pictures are colorful, and the font is appealing. The author also lists may examples throughout the text. The big idea behind the text is to teach children what exactly a prefix is, and to list the most common ones that are used.
