She does NOT disappoint!!! So many exciting twists and turns in this one and the risks go ever higher and higher for Jaron and his friends! Like, how is that even possible!! But clearly it is because that's what happened here in TST! If you haven't read this series yet, you'd better soon! I finished this particular book in 1.5 days! :D ( ) Another wonderful installment to the Carthya saga. A fourth book has been announced.. FROM AMAZON: War has come to Carthya. It knocks at every door and window in the land. And when Jaron learns that King Vargan of Avenia has kidnapped Imogen in a plot to bring Carthya to its knees, Jaron knows it is up to him to embark on a daring rescue mission. But everything that can go wrong does. His friends are flung far and wide across Carthya and its neighboring lands. In a last-ditch effort to stave off what looks to be a devastating loss for the kingdom, Jaron undertakes what may be his last journey to save everything and everyone he loves. But even with his lightning-quick wit, Jaron cannot forestall the terrible danger that descends on him and his country. Along the way, will he lose what matters most? And in the end, who will sit on Carthya's throne? Young King Jaron is recovering from his wounds and Carthya is facing war with its neighbors. King Vargan of Avenia kidnaps Imogen, his advisors convince him to head elsewhere to stop an invasion, but he cannot stay away, eventually falling into the wrong hands, as he had in earlier books. He also has to decide what to do about many of his closest friends, including Mott, Roden, Harlowe, Princess Amarinda and Tobias. I found the book sagged in the middle a bit, and thought the plot was a bit too similar to the earlier books in the series (getting captured, lying to his captors, staging unrealistic escapes, etc.) On the other hand, there is plenty of suspense about the main characters' survival. One pet peeve is that I am not quite sure that Nielsen understands the male psyche: being alone in the garden for solitude is not what boys/men do. Review of The Ascendance Trilogy One of my favorite series of all times. Jaron change from a dirty theft to a humble king and got to see more of Roden and Tobias. The battles are not grand scale Lord of the Rings but, there they are not less enjoyable to read. The battle at Falston was clever in every way. Jaron's soft side show in The Shadow Throne then the other books, I thought was sweet what he did in the beginning. Through out the whole series I would like to have see more world building. I get that each books have at lest one setting witch is fine. Each counties don't seem to have any culture beside there being lines to separate them on the map and their names. Yes this book has it flaws but, I'm willing to overlook them and see that this is an awesome series. keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
