When Katrina Haynes discovers a large man lying wounded in the snow, she fears he is at death’s door. But as Kat tends to his injuries, she quickly realizes that they’re the least of her worries. With an irresistible Scottish brogue and a strange ability to harden his chiseled body like a statue, the stranger awakens a desire she is unable to resist—and a fascination about the intriguing world he exists in.

As a proud Gargoyle, Ahnvil must safeguard the Nightwalker to whom he’s sworn fealty. But as this bewitching woman nurses him back to health, arousing an almost uncontrollable hunger within him, he is possessed with the fierce impulse to protect her as well. And he will have to shield her—for by coming to his rescue, Kat has placed herself in the middle of a supernatural war . . . and exposed herself to dark, powerful magic. As human and Gargoyle forge an unbreakable bond, Kat will discover that despite his intimidating strength and size, one thing Ahnvil does not possess is a heart of stone.

I usually find myself drawn to reading books like Forged during YA/NA burn-out to cleanse my reading palate. Like another paranormal romance series I love to read (the 'Love at Stake' series by Kerrelyn Sparks) Forged is one of many in a series, however it can easily be read without any prior knowledge of the world or characters considering each novel in the series acts as a standalone that only builds on and expands the world. Forged, in particular, was even more interesting for me since I had yet to read a romance novel regarding gargoyles before. There were only few parts of the novel that seemed to linger on just a touch too dryly but for the most part Jacquelyn Frank has a solid entry into her World of Nightwalkers series. I really enjoyed Ahnvil's character, he hit all of the marks I look for in a MC/Love Interest. Hot, Sexy, Intense but Kind, and did I mention hot? Kat on the other hand seemed to struggle with finding a solid personality. There were parts I felt she didn't have a solid enough voice almost like a background filler character. Even though I struggled with connecting with Kat, I did find retribution in her by the novels end. In closing, Forged was a solid romance novel that was just what I needed after burning out from YA/NA novels. Jacquelyn Frank's talent for world building is evident, her story is well paced, and her romance game is strong. This novel was provided to me through LibraryThing in exchange for an honest review. Forged 300 years ago by a powerful witch/wizard, the hero is finally free of his slavery but at a price. He's been severely wounded and without his touchstone, he's powerless to heal himself. The heroine is s recluse who lives high in the mountains with her dog. She stumbles upon him one night before a blizzard and can't deny her medical calling by leaving him defenseless, so she takes him back to her home. He's completely out of it for a few days but, plagued with fever, he does tend to attack her. Mostly it is just sexually but he did a few times get physical, though it was completely unintentional. The amulet the hero had in his possession before the heroine finds him, is very powerful and she's compelled to put it on an it refuses to allow anyone to take it off. Nothing much happens until half way through the book in regards to plot line. I did find the beginning horribly boring and yawn worthy. It spent most of it's time flip flopping between the hero making lewd and very aggressive sexual advances towards the heroine and his fighting his fever and collapsing back into a coma. I love possessive men but even I found him to be a bit much. First of all, he was extremely aggressive with his advances, saying he could smell the heroine's desire and all that. I did find it to be uncomfortable at times and that's an amazing feat considering how many smutty romance novels I read. But the thing that made this more creepy than the others was the fact that the heroine wasn't turned on by it. When he said he could smell her desire, she wasn't attracted to his dirty talk but rather to him as a male. He basically was one step away from raping her at one point and I felt it went a little too far. As far as the actual romance, I didn't thing there was any. It felt 100% like lust and nothing else. The author tried to impose his possessive mating urges on the fact that he had bear DNA but I never really felt any love coming through. The heroine was extremely insecure. She absolutely refuses to believe she's beautiful and is absurdly overdramatic about her photosensitivity and I think is only attracted to the hero because he compliments her nonstop. I don't think she could exist without him showering her with praise and it was sad to see. She's made out to be this tough independent woman yet she is described as a very petite girl and has major self-esteem issues. That being said. I didn't entirely hate this book. It certainly had elements of what I love most in my books. Possessive manly hero. Insecure yet strong heroine. But there was very little plot and I felt that each characters traits were bloated an therefore unappealing. ( )

I received this via netgalley

The author has produced a very good read yet again, the series is one to read.
It's a different paranormal read that fans should buy as well as Jacquelyn's other series ( )
