It's always good to be back with the Barbary Lane crew. I've been reading this series since I was a teenager and have grown up with the characters. Maupin can do very little wrong in my eyes. This book is a comforting as a duvet and although I'm not really down with all the Burning Man stuff, it was still a page turner/tear jerker.
I don't want it to be over. ( )

The book brought much joy as I read of the later years of Anna Madrigal. Maupin has a keen ear for the ways words are used and a keen eye for small details that you find yourself often saying, "yes, that is exactly right." The subject matter makes people who find themselves on the margins able to, well, find themselves. ( )

Such a satisfying and thoughtful ending to probably my all-time favourite series. I'd be lying if I said I didn't shed a tear in the last 10 pages. ( )

I have loved this series from the beginning. It taught me. It entertained me. It captured me. The last two books - this one and the one before it - were important to finish the story but, honestly neither held up to the first ones. I am glad to hear what has happened to all the characters and the Burning Man setting was perfect. But, I'm not sad this is the end. ( )

This book was pretty good. I liked it, but I didn't love it. The main character is Anna Madrigal, a 92 year old transgender woman. The story goes back and forth between her at 92, and her life as a 16 year old boy named Andy. I really enjoyed the story of her past, and how she came to pick out her name, Madrigal. The story set in the present was not quite as interesting to me, maybe because there were many more characters to divide the focus. I did enjoy when they all went to Burning Man. I have never gone there, but the descriptions were very vivid. ( )
