A rogue for every lady

London, 1817. Stuck in a Mayfair ballroom thanks to his love-struck brother, highlander Arran MacLawry wants nothing but a bit of distraction from an arranged betrothal, and a clever, auburn-haired lass in a vixen's mask promises just thatâ??until he discovers that she's the granddaughter of the Campbell, chief of clan MacLawry's longtime rival. Despite their families' grudging truce, falling for fiery Mary Campbell is a notion too outlandish even for this Highlander.

The thrill of the forbidden

Raised on tales of savage MacLawrys, Mary is stunned to realize that the impressively strapping man in the fox's mask is one of them. Surely the enemy shouldn't have such a broad chest and such a seductive brogue. It's not that her curiosity matters as any dalliance between them is strictly forbidden, and she is promised to another. But with the crackling spark between them ready to catch flame, love is worth every risk.… (mehr)

I'm thoroughly enjoying this series.

A few thoughts: when this book is good it is SO GOOD but when it is boring it is a complete snoozefest.

Also: this book desperately needs an epilogue.

I leaned towards 2 stars for a while mid-way through, but overall it's decent. ( )

"And I've never felt as alive as I do when I'm with ye. I wouldnae have wanted to go through my life withoot feeling that. Or without knowing ye. So nae, I dunnae regret meeting ye, my bonny Mary. Nae for a second."

I wasn't going to start this book so soon after reading the first one because I am still on a waiting list for the third but I just had surgery to remove my wisdom teeth yesterday and figured I could use something to make me feel better.

There were certain aspects of this that I liked better than the first in the series, like the danger surrounding the main characters. When Arran and Mary ended up having to flee from both of their clans it felt like there was much more danger for them than any of the "danger" of the first book. I also enjoyed how that danger brought them closer and even brought them closer to Howard and Peter (the men who helped them flee). I just loved Howard and Peter.

I wasn't as convinced about the love better Arran and Mary, it just wasn't as convincing as the love between Ranulf and Charlotte. It almost felt a bit too much like insta-love or insta-lust (at least on Arran's part). The more that I read the book and saw them interact the more that I liked their relationship but it took some time for me to warm up to it. I still was rooting for them though.

Overall I did enjoy this book (and it helped me take my mind off of my surgery and it has helped in my recovery). There was a sneak peek at the third book at the end of this one and I cannot wait to read that one. Let's hope that I am not on the waiting list too long (Who am I kidding? I'll probably end up buying it in a day or two because I am 19th in line and there are three copies. I have not been real patient lately.) ( )

Lovely, lovely, lovely. A story about a man that finds the woman he wants to marry, she wants him just as fiercely, and everyone else can go to hell. ( )

3.5 Stars

This book was very Scottish, so if you love Highlanders then this book is for you. I liked it well enough, but I got a little bored at times. And it's kinda an insta-love romance. They've known each other for about a week or two before they're in love and running to Gretna Green. I think I would've liked the couple a lot more if their relationship had been stretched out longer and their escape a little shorter. One thing I was definitely tired of the term Sasannach. I know it's a Scottish man thinking, talking about, or complaining about the English, but that term was used about two or three times per a page if not more.

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. ( )

Clan MacLawry had an old saying that through the years had become, "If ye want to see the face of the devil, look at a Campbell."
