For the mystery book lovers of Ashton Corners, burial plots tell the most intriguing stories. The members of the Ashton Corners Mystery Readers and Cheese Straws Society are all chipping in as Molly Mathews, now owner of the bookstore the Book Nook, prepares the first annual Mystery Book Fair. While gossip circulates about the guest authors, club member Lizzie Turner is unpleasantly surprised to see a certain book publicist make an appearance. It seems Lizzie has a history with Ashley Dixon-a chapter of her life she'd rather leave closed. But when someone gives Ashley a death sentence, Lizzie becomes the prime suspect in a murder mystery she can't put down. Now Lizzie and her fellow book buffs have to read between the lines of the publicist's past and catch the real killer before Lizzie is written off for good. Praise for the Ashton Corners Book Club Mysteries 'Books, cats, and a tenderhearted sleuth, a perfect combination.'Krista Davis, national bestselling author of the Domestic Diva Mysteries ' This Southern-fried whodunit hits all the right regional marks.'Richmond Times-Dispatch 'An engaging amateur sleuth.'Miranda James,New York Timesbestselling author… (mehr)

More meh. Not bad, not great. Good plotting.

I had this one and Cover Story on my TBR forever and it was time to get them off the piles. They aren't bad cozies, they just didn't hook me enough to care to keep going.

I'll not continue with this series, if there is another one... ( )

I read this book first and have not read any others in the series. It was good as a standalone but it did mention things that had happened in the past. There were a few minor things that didn't seem to fit well, mostly references and scenes with Lizzie's mother. Overall it was a good book. I liked the characters and the writing. I will definitely try to find the other books in this series and read them.

Another series finished till next book comes out and I will buy it. I have a question about words, lately it seems every book I read has 'poured' instead of 'pored' and 'shined' instead of 'shone'. It is so frequent it is almost like it is accepted practice. ( )

Book Fair and Foul is the fourth book in the An Ashton Corners Book Club Mystery series.

Molly Matthews has recently purchased the local bookstore, A Novel Idea and is planning an authors signing to celebrate its reopening. All the members of the Ashton Corners reading group are chipping in to make this a successful reopening.

The authors, Caroline Cummings, A. J. Pruitt, Margaret Farrow and Gigi Briggs, have arrived. Lizzie Turner and Molly can see that they will be dealing with authors, as Caroline and Margaret seem to be having a battle of who can outdo the other. Then, much to Lizzie despair, Ashley Dixon arrives in town unannounced. Lizzie and Ashley had been roommates in college but had had a falling out after one semester. In addition to Lizzie's past with Ashley, the author seem to have issues with her too. When Ashley's lifeless body is found in the coffin on the White Haven Funeral Home sign, eyes turn to Lizzie, as she had had a heated argument her the day before and in addition, Lizzie's cellphone is found with the body. With Lizzie being a person of interest, the member of the book join together and help Lizzie however they can.

Another engaging story from Chase that has a wonderful cast of characters. Most all from previous books are back once again, along with the flamboyant, Tessie, with her colorful dresses.

Looking forward to reading the next book. ( )

Lizzie, amateur sleuth, is back solving crimes. In this case she tries to solve a murder and she is the prime suspect. The murder is connected with the Mystery Book Fair she and other members of the Ashton Corners Mystery Readers and Cheese Straw Society along with bookstore owner Molly are running. This book has lots of goodies: the book fair, mystery writers in town, a dead body found in a coffin, and some love interests. I like the jealous interactions between the mystery writers, and the diva personalities of several of the writers spark up the fair. Lizzie’s love interest is the town’s police chief and he insists Lizzie stop investigating. That’s not going to happen since Lizzie does not back down and Lizzie does get into a fight for her life as she tries to save a woman from the killer. This is the fourth book in the series and now I want to read the first book, “A Killer Read.” ( )
