Is the night sky filled with stars, or are they really silver seeds? When you see fall leaves floating down from trees, could they be little brown parachutes? Maybe the moon is really a melon and your shadow is a silent friend. The lyrical poems and luminous illustrations in this stellar collection will stretch readers' imaginations. Can you believe what you see? Illustrated by Steve Johnson and Lou Francher.… (mehr)

This poetry books contains amazing imagery about nature. Being that it is poetry, it helps with teaching visualizing due to the descriptive language used and could be used to teach about deeper meanings of the poems as well.

Poetry book to use for visualizing. Will have children close eyes and visualize using their minds before comparing illustrations in text. K-3rd grade.

Silver seeds is a story that used a compilation of visual nature poems to talk about the world in which these two siblings are seeing with their eyes. It is written in Acrostic poetry. ( )

This book is lyrical poems and makes you wonder if you can believe what you see.

Silver Seeds by Paul Paolilli and Dan Brewer is an acoustic poem book. The book is full of nature poems. The pages talk about the dawn, sun, shadow, hills, trees, a leaf, a bee, a butterfly, a hummingbird, clouds, fog, rain, moon, stars, and finally night. In each of the pages the line starts with the letter of the world that the author is talking about. It starts from the beginning of the day to the end of the day and what nature you may see.

I love this book and how the author takes a different word and makes an acoustic poem out of it. The author also does a great job with the illustrations to describe each of the words. This book would be great for beginner readers and would be easy for them to understand.

One extension idea that you could do in a class is have the children make their own acrostic poem with a picture. Another extension idea is to have the children get into a literature circle and discuss what other forms of nature are out there and discuss them. This could be done as a science lesson.
