"The Black Sheep Knitters are initially amused by the antics of the Knit Kats - a local knitting graffiti group who apply their stitching to public protest. Like covering the new parking meters along Main Street with knitted hoods that have silly cat faces. The amusing act of civil disobedience causes a stir in quiet Plum Harbor. But it's not the first time the Knit Kats have made local news. The group proudly touts full responsibility on their website, which is complete with photos of the members - identities concealed by elaborate disguises and mysterious pseudonyms. The Knit Kats mean no harm, they claim, but are dedicated to brightening the landscape and raising awareness. Which no one can dispute...until a dead body turns up, covered in stitches that bear the distinct paw print of Knit Kat mischief. Detectives investigating the crime soon discover that Phoebe Myers, Maggie Messina's assistant, has been auditioning for a spot in the Knit Kat group. When Phoebe is implicated, the Black Sheep take on the tangle of clues, determined to clear her name. Are the mysterious Knit Kats truly a vicious cabal? Or, is some copy-cat knitter trying to pin the group with this murderous wrap? Maggie reminds her friends that all cats look the same in the dark. But the Black Sheep know better about killers, who always leave behind a tell-tale thread. With clever detection skills and their own, irrepressible curiosity, Maggie and the knitting friends soon uncover the truth about the Knit Kats -- and snag the guilty stitcher"--… (mehr)

This is another fun installment in the Black Sheep Knitting Club mystery series. The characters are engaging and likable, and the mystery keeps you guessing. Plus there are knitting patterns and recipes! Thisis an enjoyable cozy mystery, especially for knitters. ( )

Being a big knitter, naturally I had to request a review copy of this book from netgalley. I have not read any of the previous books in this series, something I normally HATE, but was not an issue at all in this series.

I do want to admit that I am not really a fan of cozies - I just don't get the genre. I understand the need for violence off screen, but the whole genre is just too light and fluffy for me.

Of course, I keep trying to read cozies anyway, because I do like crime books/mystery books for an occasional different read.

Like any other cozy, the setting is a small town world, with a murder you have to solve. I figured it out in about 3 seconds. The book is very slow paced - I don't read enough cozies to know if that pace is normal or not, but for me it was very slow.

The best part of the book is definitely the friendship and connection between all the women. Part of me is envious of that, but mostly I just feel it's so far-fetched. I don't have kids, yet I don't have time in my schedule to get together with my friends once a week no matter what, so how are they all having the time to do that? Still, the idea is just so cool that I'm drawn to it all the same.

No 6 in the series however, unlike many book serials, it is not necessary to have read the others to enjoy this book.

An interesting story premise of a murder mystery, a group of knitting graffitists and a knitting shop owner. The plot moves along at a steady pace although the language used by the author feels antiquated. What started as a light hearted read turned sinister with the off-page murder. The revealing of clues related to aforementioned murder feels contrived (eg happening to overhear two suspects arguing and revealing a bit more than was entirely necessary. That said there are quite a few twists and turns that keep the reader guessing with a few surprises as the end.

An integral part to the novel is the friendship between the women and how they are all connected through a love of knitting. This particular novel concentrates on one particular woman and although there is back story related to the others of the group you are not made to feel as though you have missed anything having not read the other books. Any relevant information is provided without any awkward jarring moments in the story. I loved the addition of the cat named Van Gough and hope he makes further appearances in later books.

Knitters will especially appreciate the knitting references and everyone will enjoy the story.

I know there are book serials related to other crafting activities, eg scrapbooking and quilting so it was wonderful to discover one related to knitting and set in a knitting shop. It makes me want to pick up my pins again, ( )
