"She was safe in a world of darkness. Now danger threatens in the cold light of day...Before the experimental surgery that gave her sight, Kendra Michaels developed her other senses to an amazing capacity. Now she can identify a Nissan by the sound of its engine, a Norelco electric razor by the pattern of stubble it leaves behind, or an obscure colorless fire accelerant by its sweet smell. Law enforcement agencies clamor for her rare powers of perception and observation, too often disrupting the life she has built helping others through music therapy. Because so very often, only Kendra can get the job done. But in this case, it's Kendra who first realizes that the apparent traffic accident on San Diego's historic Cabrillo Bridge is in fact a murder scene, and she rushes to alert the police before crucial evidence is destroyed. As the body count rises and one murder unveils another, a gruesome pattern emerges. Someone is killing people in ways that mirror Kendra's most notorious cases. She has a fan: someone who admires her work and is twisted enough to show that admiration through murder--while naming himself after the biggest art forger of the 20th century. He views himself not as a monster but as an artist. And he is not working alone. As the darkness closes in, near enough to touch Kendra and those she loves, Kendra must come face to face with her greatest fears--and her most ruthless enemy. A man who moves through the shadows, a man she may even know, who hides behind the mask of sanity, sight unseen. "--… (mehr)

Kendra Michaels was born blind. She developed her other senses to an incredible level and was an extremely independent person. Having stem cell surgery as a young adult, she was able to see. She went a little wild, then settled down and became a music therapist. She worked with disabled children and adults and led a very full life. She became involved in working with the police and used her highly sensitive senses to see, hear and smell things others missed. Over the years she solved a case involving a deadly serial killer (the first Kendra Michaels book) and in this book, a murderer was repeating the murders from the cases she solved. The copycat killer puts Kendra and her loved ones in danger. A suspense filled story that holds your interest until the last page. ( )

My Thoughts:

I have liked most of the books that Iris and Roy Johansen have written together...but sadly not this one. The story line had very good potential but it seemed it was more developed to sell the next book than to give the reader a chance to know and like these characters. The heroine, Kendra Michaels, came off as a know-it-all, I don't need to listen to anyone, holier-than thou character. She reminded me of Johansen's Eve Duncan character. I really doubt i'll read another in this series. ( )

I have read books by this author on and off for a while. The last one was in the Eve Duncan trilogy. Which I do like Even but I noticed that I was not feeling it as much as I used to. The story line is about the same as the last one and the one before that. Reading this book I felt that excitement again reading books by this author. I like Kendra. She is kind of what Eve started out like. She is smart and tough. Even when it seemed she was cornered, she never fully let the fear overtake her.

Another reader mentioned that this was a gruesome book in regards to the murders. Which it kind of was but not that gruesome. I have read way more gruesome books but Chelsea Cain. Yes, there is some beheading but the cat and mouse chase is what I really enjoyed. ( )

Kendra Michaels #2

" Blind for decades and now sighted, Kendra's unusual skill for observation is highly sought after by both the FBI and CIA."

I enjoyed encountering Kendra's perceptive abilities...
Dragged here and there for me but basically a good read (listen) ( )

I really enjoy this author. Interesting that she pulled a character out of her own series and decided to write with her son. Enjoyed the book and of course looking forward to more about Kendra Michaels. ( )
