A brilliant comic novel about faith, the media, and making it big in modern America. "I need a gimmick," Don Bollinger said. It was the American thing to do—imagine your fame. Like most writers, Don couldn’t get his novel published. Or pay the rent. Don watched a lot of TV. Televangelists mostly. He hated them, but he watched them often. Barry Gladwell, in particular, the king of Jesus TV. Gladwell was in a class by himself. His very existence was a marketing miracle, a knockout punch to unguarded Christians aching for a smarter God. Don’s girlfriend gave him an ultimatum: “I’m giving you one month to find a job.” But it took a soapbox preacher denouncing Harry Potter to inspire what Don believed could be the idea of a lifetime. When Don leaves the city, he knows neither how nor where his chance may come. But come it will, forever changing the lives in his path: A failed actress and the son she wills to stardom. A displaced family of five. Dozens of kids gathered in a rural church basement. And one grateful girl in a bright pink tank top whose questions soon would be answered.
