The author's bio says she has written 3 books but I believe the others are poetry and this is the first novel she has written. Her poetic background shines through in this novel.

This is the story of the Morin family who came from the Gaspe region of Quebec to Alberta (by way of Montana). Many members of this family have gifts of healing. Another family from the same Quebec region come to their town and the two families continue a history of conflict.

The story moves back and forth in time which can be somewhat confusing although the dates are clearly given. I also found it difficult to remember which characters belonged to which family but the family tree on page 10 helped. The story was compelling and I am glad I persisted. ( )
