This was a great short chapter book. It was entertaining and funny. The class pet, Humphrey, knows a student is leaving the class and Mrs. Brisbane is very happy about it. He is trying so hard to figure out who it is, but all of the students are keeping secrets from him.The moral of this story is to be honest.The story is easy to read and would be good for third or fourth grade readers. While the class studies the mysteries of Ancient Egypt, the students are finding ways to alienate themselves from each other by creating exclusionary cliques. Humphrey and Mrs. Brisbane do a great job teaching the students about how secrets can hurt people unintentionally. ( )

Humphrey the hamster learns that secrets can be bad things. everyone is excluding people with secret club,signals,and writing. ( )
