I picked this book up because one of my favorite authors, Christopher Moore, recommended it on his website. I was not disappointed. Mark Lecard's style is evocative of Elmore Leonard. Crime, mayhem and dark, twisted humor make for an enjoyable read! ( ) Low-level crook Johnnie Loduco is in a bit of a pickle. Fresh out of jail he goes fishing on a Long Island pier and hooks what he thinks is a whopper. The only problem is, when he finally reels it in, it turns out to be his friend Vinny's head. He, Vinny and Vinny's girlfriend Jennifer have been planning a scam and it looks like things have gone terribly wrong. This starts a madcap tale with Johnny playing hot potato with the head and running from the cops, the crooks and everybody in between. What results is a morbidly funny novel, written in a dry and sarcastic style that keeps things moving along briskly. Zeige 3 von 3 keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
Small-time Long Island criminal, Johnnie LoDuco, after giving up a promising career as a smut peddler, gets involved with some friends who rob a convenience store, get caught because they are too stoned to make a getaway, and then pin all the blame on him. And when his childhood buddy Vinnie bails him out of jail, he agrees to partake in a scam Vinnie has put together that will make them all rich. The only problem is: while out fishing one day Johnnie reels in the biggest catch of his life... Vinnie's head on the end of the fishing line. Now mafia types, bounty hunters, and Vinnie's girlfriend are after him, and Johnnie LoDuco doesn't have a clue as to why. Plus, they all seem to want Vinnie's head, but Johnnie seems to have misplaced it in an ice cooler--and if he wants to live he needs to get it back. Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |
