This reboot/mini-series received quite a bit of harsh criticism, but something about it drew me to it anyway. I actually rather enjoyed the entire experience and went through it in one sitting. I do agree that the high-collar modification to the outfit is a little weird and impractical, but I like the trench coat. I think that Kubert is indeed a far more talented artist than he is a writer, but it didn't evoke too many groans from me as I progressed. It provides some nice back story and is definitely entertaining. While I agree that Bruce does appear slightly out of character, I'm not sure that it is so improbable that he would allow his temper to overtake his fond feelings for his son that have been developed over the years. I also enjoyed the disembodied Alfred, the weird Bostonian Joker woman, and the Grayson "twist." I must admit that I would have much rather the priest turn out to be Gordon, though. Basically, I think people should just read this one and make up their minds for themselves rather than rely on too many reviews. ( )

Kubert's art saves this from getting the one star the writing deserves. There has to be more, right? So many plot holes, well, not holes, as much as just missing parts of the story so you have no idea what is going on. A great else worlds idea that could have been really interesting failed to live up to its potential. ( )

As hinted by in the title to start off the book, Batman dies. That wasn’t surprising to me, and I also sorta guessed the twist that was going to happen regarding the Batman’s demise as well.

After Batman’s death, Damian, still as Robin, goes quite off the deep end and into a tailspin trying to get vengeance for said death.

Through the story he slowly becomes Batman with lots of bumps and backtracks in his way.

Barbara Gordon as the Commissioner of the GCPD is in there, which is cool. Can’t have too much Babs Gordon. There was a cat character in the story that freaked me out a bit, as did Batman’s coat. And there was a priest in the TPB that was quite an interesting addition to the story.

All in all a solid, futuristic Damian story.

I got this advanced galley through Netgalley on behalf of DC Entertainment. ( )
