The company catalogue relates to the Consolidated Pneumatic Tool Company Limited, which is the UK authorised distributor for [CP] Chicago Pneumatic; and describes various models from c.1971, many of which, remarkably, remain virtually unchanged to this day.
The general information within this booklet is what interested me. This covers facts on 'Timber' usage in the construction trades, including a quick biology lesson in how a tree grows and distributes sap. This is very important for the next lesson on the differences between 'Softwoods' and 'Hardwoods', and which of the various woods are best suited to what jobs.
The next section 'Woodboring' started of explaining the differences between compressed air and electric drills, but quickly moved on to promoting the CP range exclusively. Following this, however, was another more interesting page concerning augers: double twist vs. solid core and spur nose vs. Scotch auger.
There then follows a section on 'Timber for sea defences and and marine structures' which although not related to any projects I am working on, I still found fascinating, especially the notes on the woodboring Teredo mollusc.
The headings 'Timber sawing' and 'Timber bolting' are, once again, CP promotional devices; with 'Coach screwing' and 'Adze cutting' similarly so.
Finally 'Carpentry & joinery' is purely a catalogue review of drilling, nail driving, screwdriving and sanding products from the CP range.
Considering this is a company catalogue and I don't own any Chicago Pneumatic products, I still got a fair bit out of it. ( )
