According to the author's notes, the facts of the story are all based on court transcripts of the actual assassination of Britain's PM - and the sham of an investigation and trial that ensued. Well written, interesting. Author's bio says born in England, raised in South Africa and currently living in Australia. Michelle Diener who?! Never heard of her, BUT the book blurb was so well written that there was no way I was going to pass up this one, even though it was a #3 in the Regency London series. Boy, am I glad I decided to read it! You can tell how much by ordering both of the earlier novels as soon as I got done reading it. First, if reading the blurb doesn’t get you going, here is ... thanks for jumping to b2b to finish my review ... http://bookworm2bookworm.wordpress.com/2014/05/23/a-dangerous-madness-by-michell... Melanie for b2b Complimentary copy provided by the publisher Now what did I call this series again..romantic historical suspense? It's a historical fiction novel, with romance, spies and suspense. What s there not to like? :) The PM has been murdered! Wittaker is on the trail to find out the truth and caught up in all this is Phoebe. I actually did not know the English Pm back then had indeed been killed but the conspiracy here is all the author's, and it worked very well. Perhaps it was the truth after all. I met Wittaker in book 2, but you do not have to read book 1 or 2 to follow along. It works perfectly as a stand alone. Still do read book 1 and 2 are they were awesome. He is quite the character and hiding his true self, I liked him. Phoebe wants to live a bit more, so yes of course I like her too. As the case pushes them together sparks starts to fly. All why the danger comes closer and closes. A case to be solved. Romance to be had and suspense as the conspirators are not happy. I think I like this heroine the most out of this series. I like her attitude towards society's rules and how the ton sees her. She seems very unconcerned and doesn't hesitate to zing society matrons who insinuate too much. She's got a lot of spunk and courage and I like that about her. She's also involved more, it seems, with the story itself. She takes an active role in investigation matters and faces challenges head-on in a fashion that I admire. The story itself is, for the most part, fairly fast-paced like the rest of the series. There are few moments where the audience is left in a lull. But it does seem to happen more often in this novel than the other two. Especially towards the end, there were a couple times I felt boredom creeping up on me. But taken as a whole, the novel moves at a fast clip and has tons of juicy historical details that I loved. I liked this addition to Diener's Regency series. It had a great female character and a story that for the most part moved pretty quickly. I was kept entertained and probably learned a few things, too. I'd definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes historical fiction set in the Regency period and adores strong female characters. keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen

The duke of Wittaker has been living a lie. He's been spying on the dissolute, discontented noblemen of the ton, pretending to share their views. Now, he's ready to step out of the shadows and start living a real life but when the prime minister of England is assassinated, he's asked to go back to being the rakehell duke everyone still believes he is to find out more. Miss Phoebe Hillier has been living a lie, too. All her life, she's played the game, hiding her fierce intelligence and love of life behind a docile and decorous mask. All it's gotten her is jilted by her betrothed, a man she thought a fool, but a harmless one. But when she discovers her former fiance was involved in the plot against the prime minister and that he's been murdered, she realizes he wasn't so harmless after all. And now, the killers have set their sights on her. The only man who can help her is the duke of Wittaker - a man she knows she shouldn't trust. She soon realizes he's hiding behind a mask as careful as her own. As the assassin steadfastly vows he acted alone and as the clock ticks down to his trial, the pair scrambles to uncover the real conspiracy. And as the pressure and the danger mounts, Phoebe and Wittaker shed their disguises, layer by layer, to discover something more precious than either imagined - something that could last forever. Unless the conspirators desperate to hide their tracks get to them first. Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |

Lord Wittaker has just been informed that Prime Minister Perceval has been assassinated by a man called Bellingham. When he goes to investigate the name of Sheldrake is mentioned.
Then Phoebe and Wittaker meet.
I enjoyed this well written mystery, and the two main characters were very likeable. ( )
