It's 1994. The murder rate in New York City is sky high, and Dana Hargrove's caseload is soaring. As a top prosecutor in the District Attorney's Office, Dana belongs to an elite cadre on the "homicide chart," a 24/7 rotation of on-call responders to murder scenes. Dana is also a young mother, juggling the competing demands of career and home. Her next shift on the chart couldn't come at a worse time. Distracted by concerns about the live-in caregiver for her two-year-old, Dana barely survives an exhausting week of battles in the courtroom. A surprise witness of dubious credibility has surfaced, threatening to undermine her airtight case against a reputed gang member, on trial for the murder of a rival. In the midst of it all, Dana pulls graveyard shift on the chart and receives a call in the middle of the night, plunging her into a new murder investigation that hits dangerously close to home. A tragic crime forges the painful intersection of family and career at the center of Homicide Chart. In a dilemma of heart and conscience, Dana is forced to question every choice she's made about her life and the people she holds most dear.… (mehr)

This is the third book I’ve read in the Dana Hargrove legal thriller series and each one is well written. In HOMICIDE CHART, assistant DA Dana Hargrove is newly married and has a young child at home. She’s also busy in the courtroom, prosecuting a gang member whose case quickly grows more complicated due to the actions of someone else tied to the case. She also has to work the homicide chart, where she’s called out in the middle of the night to go to crime scenes. The author did a great job of showing how stressful juggling all these responsibilities would be—especially with a young baby at home. There’s another plot involving the au pair who cares for her infant son Travis that winds up getting Dana’s family twisted up in it, plus an interesting complication in the first trial. I also found the subplot involving the author quite funny. Great characters, wonderfully detailed and an excellent read. Recommended for lovers of legal thrillers!

Please excuse typos/name misspellings. Entered on screen reader.

I received a review copy of this book thru members give aways
ADA Dana Hargrove is coming to the end of a murder trial, and it’s her turn on the murder chart (the next on call ADA to a murder scene to ensure that everything is done by ‘the book’).
When she is called out at 11:30, it’s to the death of an eighteen month old girl in an apartment, and they can’t find the parents anywhere, the medical examiner suspects it may be a case of SBS, Shaken baby syndrome.
The next day she finds that her Dutch au pair Anneke, is being charged with the child’s murder and she has been taken off the case.
Although a little slow at times, it is a good courtroom drama, with a personal twist. ( )

Ms Kemanis has written a legal mystery with more than one legal issue to be resolved. Both Dana, the primary character of this series, and her husband are lawyers that work in two different fields of law. Their au pair becomes involved in one of the legal issues this book revolves while both Dana and Evan are busy with criminal and libel/defamation cases in their offices. I learned that the title of this book refers to a District Attorney being on call to go out during the night to any murder site and make sure that legal issues are handled as they should be. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a detailed descriptive legal mystery. (3.5 stars) ( )

A great read for those who happen to love a good legal mystery! You get very invested in the characters, especially attorney Dana Hargrove. I enjoyed it so much that I plan on reading Thursday's List, the book that comes before it, as soon as I can get my hands on it :-) ( )
