This has someone taking over drones and using them to attack Smaller ones hit a baseball game on opening day. Larger ones take out a team member’s family and even bigger ones almost kill members of Echo team. The bad guy behind this is a bit surprising but the justice that Joe delivers is great. Mr Church even gets in on the action as well. ( ) There's very few authors I'll drop everything for to read their stuff. Stephen King is one. Clive Barker is another. I think I'm going to have to add Maberry (at least for his Joe Ledger series) to that list. Seven books into the series, I swear, these books are somewhat formulaic, and somewhat predictable, but holy shit, they simply kick serious ass. And by the way, before you think I'm in any way denigrating Maberry's writing for formula or predictability, I'm basically considering these novels like a favourite roller coaster. You know it's going to have a big drop, lots of twists and turns, serious speed and a hellraising finish. So do Maberry's books. In this particular one, it was actually interesting to see Maberry punish damn near every ongoing character in this series. I also love how, while each book works as a standalone, the author is careful to build a universe. He's also good at building future plots very much like soap operas do it: that is, he'll bring up something briefly in one book, mention it a bit more at length in another book, then eventually, this becomes the main thrust of the next book. And now I'm waiting for the book where Ledger takes on Nicodemus. Oh hell yeah. Hoo-ah! This was another action packed thriller from the team of Jonathan Maberry, the author, and Ray Porter, the narrator. There was a bit of down time in this one, while Joe was out of the picture for a bit, but wow! Towards the end things accelerated so quickly I could barely catch my breath. I am looking forward to continuing on to the next volume in the series. I found the audio at my library and there's only 1 person waiting for it, so I requested a hold and by the time I'm done with the audio I'm currently reading, I'll be back with my beloved Joe again. "On opening day of the new baseball season, a small model-kit airplane flies down from the stands and buzzes the mound, where a decorated veteran pilot is about to throw out the first ball. The toy plane is an exact replica of the one flown by the war hero. Everyone laughs, thinking it a good prank or a publicity stunt. Until it explodes, killing dozens. Seconds later a swarm of killer drones descend upon the panicked crowd, each one carrying a powerful bomb. Halfway across the country a swarm of much larger drones slams into the Golden Gate Bridge, destroying one of the nation's landmarks. When the debris is collected the forensics team make a frightening discovery. Each of the drones was developed and built by the U.S. military. The attacks escalate as a computer virus infects the autopilot of a commercial airline, effectively turning it into a drone. The resulting crash destroys an entire neighborhood. Two days later a squadron of F-15s is remote-hijacked, and the resulting devastation leaves an entire Air Force base in flames. Someone has developed software that can turn any aircraft into a drone. Joe Ledger and the DMS begin a desperate search for the secret to this new technology and the madmen behind it. But before they can close in on the enemy the virus infects Air Force One. The president is trapped aboard as the jet heads toward the heart of New York City. It has become PREDATOR ONE"-- Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |
