A book that discusses the siege and capture of the German concession of Tsingtao in 1914 by the Japanese Army, with support from the British. The author discusses the history of the concession, and how the wrangling over the post-war fate of the concession shaped World War II and Chinese history. A very slight book (only 68 pages), little more than an extended essay. I would say in terms of format, decidedly inferior to the Osprey series; among other things, there are no maps for the reader, photographs of the events, or detailed discussions of the weapons used. Not really recommended, I'm afraid. ( )

Short read, only 78 pages in total, but it still provides an excellent overview of events leading up to the battle, the battle itself and the after effects. ( )

An excellent quick read - publisher suggests it can be read 'between dinner and bedtime', well if you are a speed reader, perhaps.
Author has an excellent grasp on the essentials and presents them in a very readable way. A useful bibliography and the notes suggest sources for deeper reading or further research. If you want to know about the ultimate sideshow of WW1 this book is highly recommended.
There is an unfortunate, and large, typo on pp. 45-47. The author has presented two differing accounts of the attack by SMS S-90 on the Japanese cruiser Takachicho on 17 October 1914. Unfortunately both paragraphs differ in details. The first version is the most accurate. ( )
