Violin prodigy Etta Spencer had big plans for her future, but a tragic accident has put her once-bright career at risk. Closely tied to her musical skill, however, is a mysterious power she doesn't even know she has. When her two talents collide during a stressful performance, Etta is drawn back hundreds of years through time. Etta wakes, confused and terrified, in 1776, in the midst a fierce sea battle. Nicholas Carter, the handsome young prize master of a privateering ship, has been hired to retrieve Etta and deliver her unharmed to the Ironwoods, a powerful family in the Colonies-the very same one that orchestrated her jump back, and one Nicholas himself has mysteries ties to. But discovering she can time travel is nothing compared to the shock of discovering the true reason the Ironwoods have snared her in their web. Another traveler has stolen an object of untold value from them, and, if Etta can find it, they will return her to her own time. Out of options, Etta and Nicholas embark on a perilous journey across centuries and continents, piecing together clues left behind by the mysterious traveler. But as they draw closer to each other and the end of their search, the true nature of the object, and the dangerous game the Ironwoods are playing, comes to light-threatening to separate her not only from Nicholas, but her path home... forever.… (mehr)

Strong and cool story. I had to adjust to the world building like anything but i really loved the characters. The presence of black character going through time was so cool to read about and th drama it caused was unexpected but a great read. This book was so fast pace and i can't wait to read the next one.

I enjoy this story so much more on the re-read :) ( )

Two Sentence Plot: Etta's ability to time travel is just one of the many secrets her mother kept from her, and now she must use this ability and the help of her new partner, Nicholas, to save her mother. Nicholas just wants to continue his seafaring life, but when faced with the chance to protect Etta from the evil Ironwood family, he finds out he can't just turn a blind eye.

I read this book because I loved Alexandra Bracken's "The Darkest Minds" series when I was in high school. When I first started reading this book, I was slightly disappointed. I thought that my adult brain would no longer enjoy her YA style. The first chapters dragged on with too many details. But when the action and romance started to kick in, I remembered why I loved her books. It was for the way the romance was woven into the action, and how it always felt impossible for the love interests to be together while at the same time feeling dangerously close to destroying me if they aren't. Aside from the romance, sometimes the story dragged on and I kinda lost interest in Etta's mission. But at least I finished it with a better attitude than I started.

I liked….
- Nicholas - so caring and protective
- the time travel rules - different but (mostly) understandable
- that Etta was a violinist

I disliked…
- the slow pacing - mostly on the ship and in the desert
- how quickly Etta & Nicholas felt so attached to and protective over each other after only knowing each other for one scene

Content Rating: 16+, closed door sex scene between young adults, sensual kissing

Recommend for time travel fans who want a love story to root for. ( )

This book was much different than I had been expecting based on the description, but I still really enjoyed it. The historical scenes were well written. I felt as if I was actually there.

I liked the characters that I was supposed to like and disliked the ones that I was not. I was very into seeing how the storyline would resolve. I would have read this much faster, but school got in the way.

This is a good novel for anyone that likes romance, historical novels, a little action, and a lot of adventure. I recommend this. ( )

Enjoyable YA time travel adventure story, I believe the first in a trilogy. Look forward to reading the next book in 2017 called Wayfarer ( )
