Zach Adams is one of the best detectives in the country. Nicknamed Cowboy, he's a soft-spoken homicide detective from Houston known for his integrity and courage under fire. He serves on a federal task force that has a single mission: to hunt down Dominic Abend, a European gangster who has taken over the American underworld. Terrible read but its so cringey that it earned a 1 1/2 star from me on how to fill a book with so many mysoginist and racist quotes colliding with papercut female stock chqracters that will either be doormats, psycho or whiney suffering from hysteria for no reason that it will fill you heart with laughter at how pathetic the prose is.

This is the level of writing of a New York bestseller?

If a new indie author released a book this bad, it would never get any reviews. I am seriously wondering ig most of the book's glowing 5 star reviews on Amazon are not made by bots cuse they don't describe the pitfalls of this trainwreck of a book at all!

Proceed with caution! ( )

Decent supernatural thriller, unflinchingly bloody and gory. The heart of the book, though, is the main character's attempt to deal with some real existential issues; how you feel about the way that's handled is going to color your perception of the book. Think something gesturing in the direction of Dostoevsky, but with werewolves.

Also, competently written, but only just. Could have used a better editor - there are occasionally basic problems with subject-verb agreement, for example, and it gets awfully overwrought here and there.

Still, a perfectly good way to pass the time. The plot hums wright along, so makes for a quick read. ( )

In a nut shell, LEO gets himself bit (obviously). I loved Zach (the LEO protagonist turn wolf) in the beginning of this book, such a fantastic, stand up, easy-to-relate-to (because apparently "relateable" isn't a word) guy. His world gets turned upside down as he struggles with this new viscous and feral part of himself as he continues to take down the bad guy. I felt that some of the other characters in the book were far less likable, ex. Grace, Zach's wife is too... fake? Made up? I don't know, she was almost the antithesis of her husband, and if it was an intentional juxtaposition, it was an awful one.

I really wasn't a huge fan of how the plot played out and was overall disappointed in it as a novel. I found myself half-way through the book thinking of all the possibilities that could take place and was rather let down when it was so straight forward... I don't know, good chance other readers will really enjoy the book but I was not one of them. ( )

This is a strange mix of a police procedural and a paranormal battle for good and evil between a greater and lesser evil force. That makes for a very interesting reading experience. I did think the lesser evil force was a little whiny in places, but when you've been a stalwart force for good and an upright super cop for years, and you suddenly become, of all things, a werewolf, a little complaining is allowed. This one is a wild ride, but fun. ( )
