I read the first edition for English class at middle school, I enjoyed that, the story is the same here but the cover is different and it has been edited better, I forgot how emotional the story was, one minute you are laughing at Grandpa Gunthrie a lovable old man who gets up to mischief poaching and buying and selling goods on the black market he is one of the Pirates Grandpa, the next you are laughing at what the Edelweiss Pirates did to the Nasty Hitler Youth, the next is very sad when the Pirates witness a very dramatic event that the Nazi's do to a Jewish woman and her baby.
I liked the British Pilot, he was funny, he was captured by the pirates but they helped him escape if he took a 6 year old Jewish Girl with him. He told them he loved his country and wanted to win the war just like they did the Germans, only the german leader was a lunatic lol.
I hope we get another book in the series. I learnt a lot about WW2 history, I like how the book is not one sides, it tells the story from the German teens, Hitler Youth, British and Jewish point of view. ( )

I gave this 4.5 stars, it's not quite a 5 but it's better than a 4.

The characters in this novel are spectacular, Cooper has a great imagination. His writing skills are basic, but perfect for the young Adult genre he writes for. He won't win a literacy award but he will win over thousands of young fans.

Edelweiss Pirates was a very brave and new format of novel. It takes us inside the minds of young German teens during WW2, the novel is quite adorable, some funny parts, some emotional scenes and one scene that is hard to read because of the subject matter, that said; Cooper delivers brilliantly for his young audience.

The Story:::
A Grandfather in the US is talking to his grandson. The grandfather was 14 during WW2 and part of the Edelweiss Pirates, he tells of his adventures and actions they took again the sworn enemies, The Hitler Youth. A great twist at the end of the novel and Cooper has left it open for a sequel. I hope that happens. ( )

I got this because I like the authors: Jason Steed series. This was very educational, I like the characters, Grandpa Gunthrie was very funny, it had a very sad part in the novel, the history was good and the pranks that the Pirates got up to by attacking the Hitler Youth was great fun. ( )
