What would you do to save someone you love? More than a year after Blake Sanders's life fell apart he's finally starting to pick up the pieces and put it all back together. When his ex-wife Molly is abducted, he vows not to lose her, too. Her high-profile law firm calls in the FBI, which treats the case as a run-of-the-mill kidnap-for-ransom. But to Blake, it's personal. When the kidnappers demand that he deliver the ransom, he knows it is. With Molly's life hanging in the balance, Blake does the unexpected, setting off a chain reaction and a game of cat-and-mouse with the mastermind behind the abduction. The deeper Blake digs for answers, the more apparent it becomes that money is lowest on the kidnappers' list of demands. One of Molly's clients is an ex-Navy SEAL, an expert dolphin trainer turned animal rights activist. When he disappears the stakes suddenly go up, and Blake asks naval intelligence officer Reyna Chase for help. As soon as Reyna gets wind of what's happening, the game changes from saving Molly to saving Seattle from a terrorist threat that could wreak havoc on the city and kill thousands. The only way Blake can stop it is to pay the ransom--not with cash, but with his life. By the author of the Thriller Award-nominated Night Blind, Sherer's third book in the Blake Sanders series grabs the reader by the throat and doesn't let go until the last page is turned.… (mehr)

This review is from: Night Drop (A Blake Sanders Thriller) (Volume 3) (Paperback)

As the story opens, Blake Sanders is recovering from the suicide of his son, Cole, and Blake is working as a volunteer in a suicide prevention center.

Later, he receives a call from his ex-wife, Molly, about remembering to water her plants while she's away. Then she stops the conversation to answer the door. Blake listens as her voice grew to a scream and the call suddenly ended.

He goes to Molly's law firm and learns that they are putting a crisis team together to handle Molly's kidnapping. Blake wonders why she would be the one abducted since she's only a junior partner in a high level firm.

In a side story, former Navy SEAL, Trip Macready is forced to work with a group of terrorists who have kidnapped Molly and are using her to persuade Trip's assistance. He has trained a number of dolphins and the terrorists want Trip to get them to retrieve some cannisters from the sea.

At Molly's firm, the kidnappers call and want Blake to be the person to handle the money drop and he begins to feel that the kidnapping is something personal but he can't think of a reason why.

The author creates a puzzle that has various pieces, we have Blake's involvement with his former wife, Macready's actions with his dolphins, the terrorists and a young soccer player who Blake represented. The young man went overseas and was killed.

The action moves swiftly bouncing from the terrorists to Blake to Macready. Unfortunately we never get to hear what Molly is going through so it is difficult to see Blake's reaction to the kidnappers. He also has a new woman in his life, a Naval intelligence officer.

I enjoyed the book but never developed an emotional connection to the characters. The sympathy a reader should have, just wasn't there for me. I haven't read the author's two prior adventures with Blake Sanders and feel that there was probably more of a connection there. In starting with the third book in the Blake Sanders' series, I must have missed some of the connections.” ( )

Blake Sanders is trying to get his life back together after the suicide of his son and his divorce. Trip Macready is an ex-Navy Seal. They both have someone they love kidnapped. What follows is a thrill ride of a race to stop a terrorist attack on Seattle.

This book grabs you from the first page, keeps you on the edge of your seat and you can't put it down till the last page has been read. It is simply that good. If you like thrillers than give this book a try. I received this from the author for an honest review. ( )

Night Drop by Michael W. Sherer

This novel is a jigsaw puzzle of a thriller. There are about a half-dozen major pieces to the puzzle and the reader, together with the characters, gradually, slowly, learns how they fit together, forming the relationships among the characters and the structure of the story. There are two main protagonists. Blake Sanders, in Seattle, is a flawed but sympathetic hero, deeply hurt by circumstances. His ex-wife, who still means the world to him, has been attacked and has disappeared. Trip MacReady, in San Diego, is an ex-Navy Seal whose girl friend has been kidnapped. As these two characters, each unbeknownst to the other, pursue their own objectives in saving the women in their lives, a larger plot to create terror in the United States is gradually revealed. In resolving their individual conflicts, these two men burn the same fuse from either end, as it were, and the climax of the story is explosive.

The story's narrative alternates, ofttimes mid-chapter, between the points-of-view of Blake and Trip. The result can be disconcerting for the reader, who is whip-lashed from one story line to another and kept continuously off-balance. This jarring effect, combined with the evolving mystery behind the relationships among the various puzzle pieces of the story, heightens the tension and the suspense for the reader. The result is a thriller that is difficult to put down. This novel has cost me hours of lost sleep and I can't wait to read the next one in the series!

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. ( )
