We join John and Rachel on their trip across the country after the US is attacked with nuclear and biological weapons. Fast paced and well-written. Do not confuse well-written with beautifully written. The author's style is almost terse, but with smart-assery thrown in. Gritty in the depiction of violence. Do not read if you do not want dark images living in your head. I like the characters and that the sidekick is female, but not there only for the T&A. The beginning of a series following an ex military man who is just trying to get home to his wife after all hell breaks loose in the good old USA. The Chinese have issued war on America, but unlike any we've ever seen. Biological warfare along with nuclear has ravaged the states and now martial law has taken over. People must do what they must to survive...including killing their loved ones and friends. keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen

While making his escape from the city, he rescues a stripper from a group of thugs. Together, they wonder through Georgia and battle zombie hordes and bad humans along the way. Turns out the stripper is a 4th year medical student who works her magic on the protagonist, saving both his life and others who are injured (new characters) during the trek.
Although this is still a cookie-cutter version of a zombie apocalypse story, the author has a smooth writing style that doesn't lag half-way through the book. There is action galore during the trio's (addition of a dog) journey westward.
I have already purchased book 2 and I look forward to reading what happens next. ( )
