This was a light read, and I assumed somewhat tongue in cheek because of the way the characters and situations were handled, with everyone rushing around at the end with the same aim. None of the characters was developed in any depth, but the story was interesting and even amusing - though not particularly scary! Diese Rezension wurde für LibraryThing Early Reviewers geschrieben. A nice effort, but could use a heavy-handed editor.Dead Man's Fingers is about a ghost that is unleashed when its bones are discovered bricked up in an old building. The ghost belongs to a man who strangled prostitutes in the 19th century. A gruesome tale, which is not as creepy as it could be because of the lighthearted treatment. I guess the idea was to make it a shaggy dog story, but I think the serious nature of the crimes was treated too lightly. The final action seemed like a big farce, and inappropriate. I really think it would have worked better as a straight-up scary ghost story! I received an electronic copy of a proof through LibraryThing's Early Reviewers program. Diese Rezension wurde für LibraryThing Early Reviewers geschrieben. I was disappointed in this book. I thought the idea, if it had been expanded could have been a really good ghost story, however the characters were very flat and the book became quite tedious with the repetitive descriptions of the ghost as the "bald headed dude who looked like he at light bulbs for breakfast and the Rookie cool cop" I have given it two stars because I did need to finish it to find out what happened.. Diese Rezension wurde für LibraryThing Early Reviewers geschrieben. This book's summary blurb caught my interest. I love ghost stories and I love humor and I began the book hoping that I would be entertained. Unfortunately the book failed to impress me. I did keep reading because I had to see how the book would end. However, while the story could have been intriguing, the actual book was neither engaging nor entertaining. The characters are one-dimensional and there is not an ounce of character development. There are too many stereotypical and/or silly things (a cop named Rookie B. Cool who wears sunglasses all the time??). The author repeats favorite phrases ad nauseam. If I ever again hear the phrase "looked like he ate light bulbs for breakfast" I am pretty sure I'll scream. Ultimately the book comes across as just plain silly. That said, I'll give it two stars because I did have to finish the book to see how it ended. keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen

This book is short and I consider if more of a short story. I picked the perfect time to read it, October. It was a perfect October read because this story holds ghosts, skeletons and mysteries. I enjoyed it. I will say, I didn’t find it scary. So if that’s what the author was after, I didn’t get that. I also did not find myself connected to any of the characters. The writing style was well done and kept me engaged and it was such a quick read; but that worked. It wasn’t such a quick read that I felt like it was rushed. The story gets across everything it needs to. It’s a perfect pick for a read in one sitting or a read in one day book. It’s not something I would reread again, but I did definitely enjoy it the first time and would keep my eye on what else J.K. Bovi writes next. If you are looking for a unique ghost story and/or mystery give this one a shot and see what you think!
