I struggle with the hot firefighter trope since so many of the men in my family are firefighters. It's a bit hard to picture hot sexy firefighters when your father, grandfather, and uncles do the same job. I feel that I need to overcome that since there are so many good books within this trope. I do know a thing or two about it since I practically grew up in the firehouse. Like I would literally just hang out there even while dad was out at a fire. The dispatcher and I became good friends. I understood Megan's fears. I have the same ones even though my father didn't die in a fire. He did come home injured quite a few times and even had severe burns. Blakely depicted Megan's fears and insecurities perfectly.
Megan lives a wonderlust life moving from town to town and job to job. The one thing she always comes back to--her art...ok two. Art and her family. Her brother, Travis and Megan had to care for each other after their father was killed fighting a fire. It left their mother broken for many years. That formed an unbreakable bond between the siblings. Each sibling gained something from that experience. Travis wanted to follow in his father's footsteps to be a firefighter. Megan vowed to never fall in love with one. One kept their promise. The other broke it.
Becker left Chicago after two of his buddies died right beside him. He has carried that survivor's baggage with him ever since. He moved to Hidden Oaks to start over. He opens a bar. He keeps going back to his true passion. Being a firefighter. He volunteers at the local fire department where he finds a new family. One night with a sexy stranger puts all that in jeopardy especially his friendship with Travis. ( )

I've been reading Lauren Blakely for a long time and have to say that Megan and Becker brought the matches that started the fire which brought the trouble in Melt for Him. The connection was instant and obvious. Sexiest couple Ms. Blakely has written to date. The romance was there but the story was lacking for me. Wish there had been more back story to even out the sexual chemistry. Each character was fighting an inner struggle from past hurts that could have added to this story of taboo temptation. I was looking for more than a hot read.

Second in the Fighting Fire series Melt for Him was a quick, sexy, and intimate read. Even though our leads jump into the sack pretty early, they still had a fun, friendly, and gradual deeper growing attraction. For how quick of a read this was and how Brazen books tend to rely heavily on the sexy times, I was impressed with how believable Becker and Megan were outside of the bedroom. There was a camaraderie and ease to the couple that paired extraordinarily well with their bedroom scenes. This would be a great book to pick up for a swift afternoon read, it's sexy with a communicative believable couple, not always found in these types of books.

I don't think I'm that much into this series as I was while reading some of her other books. Her characters here seem a little, I don't know, weird?! But weird in the sense that I don't really think people act that way in real life. Ever. lol

The story in itself wasn't really original and something was missing in the relationship. Torrid lust became undying love because they wouldn't have sex?! Maybe distance DOES make the heart grow fonder. ( )

I really enjoyed this one, and I loved Becker's dirty talk, but the ending fell a little flat for me. ( )
