Living in Poland during World War II, Maria, who is estranged from her family, is living with her in-laws while her husband is away fighting. One day she finds a young Jewish girl hiding in the barn trying to escape the German police, so Maria decides to help this young girl at the risk of her own life. This was a really short story, quick to read, but still good. Kinda left me wanting more though. ( )

A novella of 21 pages that has an excellent story set in occupied Nazi's territory during in World War II. Maria marries to get away from her father who is turning in Jews to the Nazi's. Maria helps a Jewish girl hide from the Nazi's and escape. The story tells of the pressure and the arrest of people who help the Jews. I enjoyed this book very much and surprised when it ended so quickly. The Other Girl is the prequel novella that goes with the Winter Guest. ( )

This book ties in directly to the Winter Guest. This book focuses on a character that we briefly meet in that book. It was great to go back to these characters and get a better feel for some of the things that happened in the Winter Guest. This is certainly worth picking up if you have enjoyed the author's previous work, especially the Winter Guest. (Plus I got this free on Kindle.) ( )
