Knitting as the new feminism? You bet. It's My Party and I'll Knit if I Want To is a lighthearted, philosophical look at why knitting is back in fashion and the fabulous women (and men!) embracing the lost arts of their grandmothers.

Knitting is in a major revival. Knitters have been spotted in parliament, in pubs, at the cricket. And they're not just over 50. They're young, sassy, professional women. What is going on here?

This is third wave feminism in action. The previous generation made the workplace the centre for action; ours is the home front. This is a feminism that enjoys a career but doesn't think that a career alone is enough. So we knit, cook, sew and build a better quality of life.

Answering questions such as Is it ok to knit in public? Is it ok to share needles? and natural vs synthetic? Sharon Aris tells you how to knit yourself to happiness and truly embrace the world of your grandmother.

What is it with the Swiss? The apartment was advertised as fully furnished. We are in the land of the Swiss army knife. Dead set, there are knife museums here. Oh, okay, ONE knife museum, but isn't that quite a lot.

Frankly a Swiss apartment advertising itself thus should have more knifeware about the place. When hacking one's knitting to death, one wishes to look dramatic, big swipes with an imperious looking blade. Sawing it on the cutting board with a four inch vegetable knife just doesn't do it. Nor does the bread knife work. Yes, sorry, I've tried.

----------------

What I really want right now. What my mood cries out for...

Is a book called It's my knitting and I'll hack it to death if I want.

Right now.

Stomps off to find machete. ( )

An amusing and light hearted look at knitting. For me it was nice that it focused on knitting in Australia, a Country close to my heart. It didn't make we want to rush out and grab my needles, but it did make me realise that I miss my Aussie family more than I thought! - I enjoyed the mini biographies of those being interviewed and it was good to get pointers towards mailing lists and web sites.
