1. Summary- This book is about a little duckling who is very different looking from his family. His brothers and sisters reject him and make fun of him. Then one day, he runs away and turns into a beautiful swan. All his new swan friends love him and he flies far away with them.
2. Personal Reaction- This book is a great book because it shows that things always work out for the better in the end. It also shows that it is okay to be different no matter what others say.
3. Classroom Extension Ideas- I could use this book in the classroom to show kids that everyone is different and that doesn't make it okay to bully someone for being different. Also, when something bad happens in the book, i can ask the kids if that was a nice thing to do or if it was bullying.

This is a great book. Not only is it a classic, it has a great message behind it. It teaches a lesson to little kids. Children can read this story over and over and never get tired of it. The illustrations are as great as the story line. It is an overall great book, adults and kids alike enjoy reading this book over and over. ( )

You can't go wrong with this book. While it is a genuine classic, it never gets old, and kids always grow attached to it. Although the text is very simple, it tells a story much greater, and it teaches kids a lifelong lesson about fitting in and finding who you are. ( )

I love this book because it shows young readers that judging people based off appearances is wrong. I felt so bad for the “ugly duckling” because no one likes him and he is constantly made fun of. It makes me sad and angry how no one likes the “ugly duckling.” One example of the other ducks picking on him, “…and what a queer looking object one of them is…”. He was exiled from other birds for being the “ugly duckling”. The other birds shunned and exiled the “ugly duckling”, he never got mad or upset with the other birds. Then over the winter, the duckling's true beauty began to show through and he became a beautiful swan. The illustrations show the different emotions the “ugly duckling” is feeling. Such as how sad the duckling is drawing him with his head down. When someone is walking like that it just shows how much he or she does not want to be looked at or how ashamed he or she feels. The illustrations revealed to me how mean the ducks were to the “ugly duckling” and how much hurt he felt. This is a great story to introduce to young readers when teaching them about how being mean can really hurt someone's feelings. ( )

I found this book completely refreshing, the main idea of the story was that true beauty is on the inside. The problem with the story is that there is only one example of this. He was exiled from other birds for being the Ugly duckling. While they shunned and exiled the ugly duckling, he never got mad or upset with the other birds. Then over the winter, the duckling's true beauty began to show through and became a beautiful swan. The book has beautiful illustrations and pictures that depict beautiful scenes that have incredible colors. ( )
