(2005)Very good. Temperance Brennan is drawn into a mystery where bones are found that could be those of Jesus and they are found where they are not supposed to be. She tries to prove/disprove their reality.

This is the power of the good series. Even if I comprehend only about 1/3 of the theme I still enjoy the road. But really... I think this is more like a "vacation book". Like the one I would expect in the middle of the series to relax and replenish emotional energy for the surely coming calamity. It is coming, right? I would be really disappointed if not.

Other than that I'm little bit disappointed that real meat of the risen problem got lost amongst all that forest of repetitions, circling and such. It looks detailed but it feels really shallow compared to the theme explorations in other books. ( )

I've got to hand it to Kathy Reichs, she really knows her stuff. While reading this book, I was struck by the intricate blend of forensic anthropology and religious history.

This instalment of the Temperance Brennan series is not just a murder mystery; it's a journey into how religious beliefs can stir up our everyday lives. It's like a Sunday school lesson with a side of CSI - and I'm here for all of it.

Reichs' attention to detail is impeccable. She doesn't just tell the reader about the bones... she made me feel like I was right there in the lab with Tempe, microscope in hand. And it's not just the forensics. She paints a vivid picture of every setting, every character. I felt like I could walk around in Tempe's world, bump into her colleagues, and know exactly who they were.

The plot twists in this book were a breath of fresh air. Reichs weaves in historical facts and mysteries that had me turning pages faster than I'd like to admit. It was a fantastic departure from the usual whodunit, and I really enjoyed the ride. ( )

If one is seeking a basic understanding of the antiquities of Israel, then this would be a good beginning. If one is seeking a Temperance Brennan mystery, this would be a poor suggestion. There's just too much aw-gee here to think of Tempe being on the ball. For a change, she didn't get her head bashed. ( )

Another dead body, another Kathy Reichs mystery!

This novel revolves around religion, and could be compared to a Da Vinci Code of the death and crime world. If anyone is interested in religion, and enjoys crime novels, this book would be for them! Orthodox Jewish, Christianity and other religions are mentioned and described in this book along the way. It is not the typical Kathy Reichs book since religion is one of the main focuses, but overall it was a good novel!

Andrew Ryan is a big helper in this novel, and to me it seemed like he was involved more in this novel than some of the previous ones. Romance is slightly involved in this novel, but it more along the lines of 48% religion, 48% crime and 2% romance.

I found this book very boring, due to the constant talk of religion. I would have liked to learn more about bones and what the different markings meant for the different era skeletons. There was far to much religious talk and descriptions for my liking.

Five out of five stars, nonetheless! Kathy Reichs made a book that kept me interested and wanting to continue reading the next book! ( )
