Harper Kirkpatrick is not what Cameron Bennett expects for the bachelor party in his Savannah mansion. She's desperate when he sends her home. Jobs are scarce and eviction looms. Former boyfriend Billy took off for California and she's too proud to head home to Chicago. Although Cameron may not go for her cheerleader kicks, he does admire Harper's spunk. When she answers his ad for a nanny, she's horrified to find herself back at his mansion. But she can't turn down the generous salary or Bella, the toddler with troubled eyes. Youngest in the Kirkpatrick clan, Harper's not an expert on kids. Neither is the young widower. Her head-strong personality soon puts her at odds with Cameron and his TV personality girlfriend, Kimmy Carrington. When she stands in for Kimmy at a Savannah gala, Harper and Cameron spark a fire that nearly burns down the dance floor. Never has the wrong man felt so right. Never has a boy from the south worked so hard to rev up the charm. Will the Windy City girl be able to put the heart back in his home? How can he convince her that his southern comfort has staying power?… (mehr)

In this book, which is subtitled as a prequel to the Windy City Romances, a Chicago girl gets involved as the nanny for the daughter of a Savannah gentleman. It seemed like a bit of a trite premise, but Barbara Lohr delivered a cute and heartwarming romance.

Harper is down on her luck and broken hearted when she shows up at the door ready to entertain at a children’s party. It’s a bit late, but that’s okay, sometimes the games are played at the end. Finding herself the attraction at a bachelor party, she has no choice but to give it her best go because it’s the only way to make her rent.

Everything goes wrong, but it does lead her to apply for the position of Bella’s nanny.

I recommend the book to people who like romance with a little heartbreak on the side. ( )

Nice light romance appealingly set in Savannah, Georgia. The characters were likable and the story moved along at a good pace. Perfect book for escapism. I read this while traveling to unwind. Enjoyed it! ( )

This is the first book in the Windy City Romance series I've read and I enjoyed it very much. Finding Southern Comfort was a quick read and the relationships developed nicely and kept my interest. I skimmed the sexy bits (sorry, not my fav parts of the story) but found the characters funny and engaging. Will definitely check out the rest of the series! ( )

This was a cute story that pulled me in from the hilarious beginning. Harper’s last job as a party entertainer is at Cameron’s house but not in her usual role or one she envisioned. Accustomed to providing enjoyment to children’s parties, she is not ready for the stripper role she is sent to at his house. After only a short time and numerous foibles, Harper leaves and proceeds to quit her job. In order to stay inSavannah and pay her bills, she accepts a position as a nanny to Cameron’s young daughter, hoping against hope that Cameron will not recognize her as the would-be stripper who didn’t quite make it at his part. After only a short time, Harper finds herself totally taken in by Cameron’s young daughter (whose mother died when she was two) and totally attracted to Cameron. He is likewise attracted to Harper, despite the fact that he is dating a local TV personality. Do and how these two get together or if they get together is the story of this book. I found the book entertaining and an easy read. The only thing I found not to my liking was the poor way the author handled Cameron’s daughter’s eating disorder. It barely got notice for most of the book, as the author focused on Harper and Cameron and their interactions. I liked Harper, but I always like smart, sassy female lead characters. I also found it abrupt the way the author suddenly introduced Cameron’s family and his humble beginnings, with no real lead-up. However, all in all, this is quite a good, interesting modern day romance, with all the trappings you could expect. I think anyone enjoying or looking for a light, entertaining romance with a little bit of good, old-fashioned humor mixed in will enjoy this book. I did. I received this from Library Thing to read and review. ( )

Harper Kirkpatrick is in desperate need of money now since her ex boyfriend Billy left her. Harper poses as a stripper but can't strip to save her live while Mr. Blue Eyes is watching. Cameron Bennett needs a new nanny and when Harper applies for the position is impressed by her grace. Cameron's daughter Bella does nothing by eat baby cereal and is seriously underweight for her age. Harper's heart just breaks to watch Bella and is determined to help this little girl. Harper asks Cameron to have sit down dinners with Bella. Cameron will do anything for his daughter. Can Harper help Bella? Will Cameron admit his attraction to Harper? Your answers await you in Finding Southern Comfort.

I really liked this story. Bella just tore my heart out upon meeting her. Cameron is a hunky alpha male trapped with a horrible girlfriend while secretly lusting after Harper. Harper has spunk and character. I'm definitely going back to read the rest of this series. ( )
