I liked this one so much better than Takes Manhattan. This was an enjoyable escape while I have been quarantined with covid ( )

This was the third in the Shopaholic series.

At one point in this book, I had to stop reading because I grew so uncomfortable with the situation that Becky had got herself into. It was literally stressing me out. But I think this just shows how compelling of a character Becky is and how realistic her life had become to me.

This book of the series so far would be the best to be made into a movie. The vivid imagery and the beautiful scenes envisioned would be a delight to see on the screen, and Becky's designer friend could really shine.

I appreciated the details of the Plaza, which reminded me a little of the Princess Diaries.

In this book, Luke grew a lot as a character. I've appreciated how he'd been slowly built through the previous two books, and this took him to another level. He became very real, instead of just being a power playing workaholic, and we learned a lot about his past. The ultimate resolution was very satisfying, and again showed how Becky can be a very strong person when she's needed.

For the most part, this felt a little superficial, but this was still a fun read. ( )

Por una vez en la vida, a Becky Bloomwood las cosas le van bien. Famosa en todo el mundo por su afición a comprar sin límites, ignorando olímpicamente el estado de su paupérrima cuenta corriente, por fin ha conseguido el trabajo de sus sueños como asesora de compras en una tienda neoyorquina («gasto el dinero de los demás... y encima me pagan»). Además, vive en un fabuloso apartamento en Manhattan con su novio Luke e incluso ha abierto una cuenta conjunta con él.
Pero, de repente, todo se acelera. Luke le pide, quién lo hubiese dicho, que se case con él, y acto seguido, como movidas por un automatismo ancestral, entran en acción las... suegras. La madre de Becky quiere que la boda se celebre en el jardín de su casa de Surrey, of course, y que su hija lleve el mismo vestido de volantes que vistió ella, el cual ha estado reservando para la ocasión. Por su parte, la de Luke, en el más puro estilo americano, está empeñada en organizar una fastuosa ceremonia en el Hotel Plaza de Nueva York en el que se recreará un bosque, o quizá un baile veneciano, en fin, cuanto más extravagante, mejor. Becky es consciente de que tiene que elegir entre una de las dos, pero ¿cómo tomar semejante decisión? Por otra parte, el hecho de probar pasteles, escoger el vestido y hacer la lista de bodas es tan emocionante... Y así pasan las semanas hasta que, un buen día, se percata de que ha organizado dos bodas, una a cada lado del Atlántico.

Simpatico e divertente, forse il più esilarante della serie. Una Beckie che appare del tutto frivola ma che nasconde invece un gran cuore e una grande forza nonostante tutti i pasticci che riesce a creare, anche per il suo matrimonio.
Effettive quattro stelle e mezzo. ( )
