This was a sweet book, simply written about a young girl who escaped Africa to become a ballerina in the US. Personally, I found the first part of the story more interesting as five year-old Michaela struggled to survive in war-torn Sierra Leone. Once she moved to America with her adopted family, the novel became rather repetitive with ballet auditions and practise routines. However, still an uplifting book for young ballet lovers. ( )

After I read this book some of the people in my class read it too. My teacher said that it wasn't very well written but it does make you think differently about rasisim in America and how it is still going on now!
