Not as good as the first book, but still a good read!! ( )

I'm split on whether or not this book is better than it's predecessor. One the one hand, I (still) liked Ruby and that her approach to her situation is basically "everything sucks and I might as well use this as an opportunity to access all the makeup and clothes I never could before." That feels realistic to me. Is it practical that she puts on makeup to make herself feel better? No, but that's probably what I would do too. And the introduction of the moral ambiguity of Xar and the fact that Ruby's father is... kind of a flake which is putting it nicely - he hardly even seems to notice she's there or care what she's gone through, he's so wrapped up in Tilly, and he really fails at parenting Dan when he needs it most in interesting and not something normally done in YA.

But not everything was an improvement. At first, it was nice to have Saskia show up and be a part of the story, but when she's taken to the hospital and then everyone accepts that she's dead without question is too rushed. I want to know what happened to her! She was a resourceful character. And while there was the beginning of a relationship between Ruby and Darius in the first book, it seemed really rushed here. And Princess's story line was extremely vague. In fact, I'm not really sure why she was necessary to either plot.

Overall, a fun fast read. ( )

The plot was all over the place and Ruby didn't seem to grow much during this book unfortunately. I still don't understand why the scientists and army acted as they did, it seemed entirely ridiculous. ( )

Ruby is a very likeable character which is good because I still get a bit frustrated that she still seems a bit obsessed with clothes and make up and I have to remind myself that she is a 15 year old girl. Besides that I really enjoyed the 2nd book in this series, The premise that this apocalypse was started by a microscopic being which came from a blown up asteroid is original and leaves a lot of room for story development. I found myself tearing through this book too quickly and was rather disappointed that I had come to the end so soon. I hope this series continues ( )

This was definitely not as engaging as the first book and the story just seemed to drag on forever without much really happening and the ending felt rushed leaving me with several unanswered questions. H2O was original and captivating but this follow up is a dud. ( )
