I liked this book for several reasons. First, the illustrations enhanced the story and were appropriate to the mood of the story. There is a lot going on in each illustration, almost like it is a collage; this represents the busy day that Minho and his mother had. The book didn't have a lot of words, but the illustrations themselves tell a story, making this a picturebook rather than a picture book. I also like that the author uses figurative language, such as onomatopoeia. For example, when Minho and his mother went to the laundromat, the illustrations show "thump, thud, thump, thud" on the laundry machines to help the reader imagine how loud they were, and what they sounded like. I think the main message of this book is to enjoy the time you have with the ones you care about, even if it is just running errands.

I enjoyed how Yumi Heo integrated the different sounds throughout the day. The words for the sounds were formed into the action and even noise level (for example, larger print for louder sounds). The story shows just how noisy our daily lives can be and how we can’t even escape the noise sometimes once we get home. This book is aimed at primary readers and would be great to use for a lesson about onomatopoeia and for lessons about neighborhoods or city life. ( )

I like this book for several reasons. First, I like the illustrations. They are colorful collages that are busy to look at, which reflects the busy day that Minho and his mother had. I like how the illustrator uses the entire page to show what Minho and his mother are doing. The illustrations also do not distract the reader from the text. They enhance the text so that the reader can picture what Minho’s busy day is like. Second, I like how the author integrates onomatopoeias creatively into the illustrations. For example, when Minho was at the Laundromat, the machines have the words “thud” repeated inside the circular machine. Another example, is when they were at the beauty salon, the words “snip snip” was made from the hair that was being cut off. This book is filled with many onomatopoeias such as “clickety clack”, “wuf wuf wuf wuf”, “whurra whurra whurra”.Third, I like how some sentences do not end at each page. Instead, they continue on. This emphasizes how Minho’s day kept going on and on. The big idea of this book is to enjoy time with your loved ones. This is shown through Minho spending the day running errands with his mother. This is my week for onomatopoeia. It's pretty prevalent in picture books, I suppose. But this particular book weaves the sounds into the actual actions. The sounds swirls in shapes, rattles and bumps, and swing across the page . The sound of the washing machines is inside the machines. The sound of hair being snipped is shaped with the pieces of hair that are drifting down. The sounds of a jack hammer fly away like pieces of concrete.

The characters and supporting cast, like the sounds, come in a delightful array. ( )

This is a really good book that talks about how people from Korea live in America. All of the pictures are great and go really with the words. I would defiantly recomend this book to anyone that is interested in learning about the Korean culture. I would definantly read this book to my students because I think that it is important to teach them about the Korean culture. ( )
