This book is written to explain the event of a divorce from a child’s perspective. It takes you through each phase of the process and it explains alternate feelings that one must have and how to react to those feelings. Divorce is a complex issue, but this book looks at it practically while considering human emotions. Through a poetry style of writing the readers go through a realistic fiction story that many children go through in their lives. This book goes over some of the things you may experience as a child when your parents divorce. It covers complex emotions, like emotional numbness, fight, flight or freeze reactions etc. This book was a little disappointing. It was fairly straightforward and didn't make me feel much. I think there is a big difference between straight-forwardly describing an emotion and showing it in a more nuanced way. I think this is a great topic, I just wish the author had gone about it a different way. But who knows, it may be very helpful for some kids! This is my first non-fiction libthing entry. I really enjoyed this book. I thought the collage art worked well with the text, truly emphasizing the intensity of feelings on might have during a parents divorce. For example, on one page a pair of eyes is constructed using images of fire and lightning to convey feelings of anger. I also like the that the book uses simple sentence structures and does sugar coat the hardships or changes a child notices when their parents are going through a divorce, such as parents crying or yelling, or being a less attentive parent. The book also talks about the different ways these changes might affect the way the child acts, such as crying over small things and not crying at all over big things. I also like that the book ends with a powerful message that encapsulates the big picture: "Divorce means your parents are splitting from each other. YOU stay in one piece." keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen

"A lovingly crafted picture book speaking to the child's perspective on divorce. The book offers advice, sympathy, and wit to match without being pandering or authoritative. While admitting that divorces are painful, it above all empowers its young reader to cope with and even make the best of a difficult situation"-- Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |
