Cutie LaRue was a sweet little girl who always obeyed her parents and did as she was told, except when it came to bedtime. Cutie would stomp her feet, pout, and yell loudly that she was not tired! Her parents tired everything to get Cutie to go to sleep, and nothing seemed to work. One day her parents found a doll called the Night Owl. Cutie's mom and dad knew they had to get the owl to help Cutie sleep. Cutie was in for a surprise with the night owl, brings Cutie to the Dreamland Night club. At the Nightclub, Cutie soft-shoed with the Slumber brothers, learned to jam to Sandman's snare, how to play piano and the list went on and on. Soon Cutie could not go anymore and curled up and fell fast asleep. Did the owl really take Cutie to the Nightclub or was it just their imagination? I think this is a great fun book to read to children in school or especially at bedtime. I love how Pinkney lets children use their imagination with this book. ( )

Cutie LaRue is perfect...except at bedtime. Her parents try everything to get her to bed but nothing seems to work, until they find Night Owl. As a parent that is all too familiar with the bedtime struggle, I thought this book was adorable. The illustrations are bright and fun. After reading a few Jerry Pinkney books, and falling in love with his illustrations, it was cool to see his sons work. They have different styles but are both extremely talented. ( )

This is a story about Cutie, a little girl who does not like to sleep. Her parents get her an owl that is designed to help her sleep. The owl takes her off to a magical land where there is singing and dancing. Cutie is so exhausted from the busy night that she finally goes to bed. ( )
