Feiten en wetenswaardigheden uit de historie van het Romeinse Rijk (753 v.Chr. tot 476 na Chr.), READ IN ENGLISH This book in the Horrible Histories series centres around the Romans. Obviously there are a lot weird things to tell about the Romans. Like some of the emperors who had lost their minds. Like Caligula, who loved his horse so bad, he promoted him to consul, and had a palace built for him, so he could get guests over. Or Elagabalus' fine dining diners. Or how about Nero? The list is long... This book (for children, but also nice for people who are a bit older than that) shares again some interesting facts with us concerning Romans and everyday life in the Roman Empire. Nice drawings accompany the text. This is what I call a history text - level one for the non-social studies/history student. If more kids read graphic texts with interesting, yet REAL stories about history they may actually enjoy it. However, most historical books are about dead people and wars no one has heard about, especially children! Not interesting! This book however is about a the Romans, who they lived, survived and conquered, much more interesting! There are short quizzes littered throughout the text and ones just for the teacher!! Kids love to quiz their teachers! The graphic design of almost every page in the book is different as well. Nothing is static! This is also attractive to kids! I am becoming a fan of graphic books and I think this one children will definitely enjoy, whether they are fans of history or not! This was the first of this phenomenally successful series that we got - and it's fab. Full of all the gory and whacky facts about the ancient Romans with jokes, cartoons and quizzes, these books have helped interest children in history, but they do need to know about the serious bits too. My only problem with these books is that they are totally formulaeic - we've got about 15 history ones, plus half the similar Science series (diff author, same template), and there's Geography etc etc etc still to come. But kids love 'em, so who am I to criticise?! Zeige 5 von 5 keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
