Technically this story was fine; well enough written without plot fouls. However, a good part of the enjoyment of this series (for me), a combination of the mysterious things they look into; the interactions with the new kinds of paranormal and a good part is from the author's tongue in cheek humor. Both such are lacking here-in. ( )

Goodbye Fran. Goodbye Jonathan as we knew him. Poor Alice. ( )

This story ties up various loose ends as we finish saying goodbye to Fran. So much sadness! ( )

The Star of New Mexico continues where Broken Paper Hearts ended (it would have probably been better had the two stories been combined, considering how short they both are). This one, however, was by far the saddest of them all. It's a very short stories, but considering this is a complete series of short stories, it doesn't really feel like a short story any more.

The part with the Aeslin mice was truly heartbreaking. Now I need some light reading to forget all this. ( )

I am gutted. I never realized how much I'd come to love Fran until she was gone. Jonathan, Alice, *the mice*. So much grief. And the end... ( )
