Morrison's book has great pictures and details of how George Davidson went about mapping America's Pacific Coastline. While measuring the coastline, the workers faced many obstacles, one was that they were not paid enough. Prices on the east coast were cheaper than California, where they lived. They also faced the challenge of people who owned the land they were surveying were suspicious of them. The work that was done paved the way to ships avoiding collision and spills of waste. ( )

I liked the book "The Coast Mappers" by Taylor Morrison,. The detailed watercolor pictures, help to show the accuracy that was needed to accurately map U .S. West Coast. I thought the story was very exciting including Davidson's commanding officer's encounter with mutineers, the destruction of the San Francisco Wharf in 1850 and his near death in San Francisco Bay. I think the author's message of perseverance and determination are evident throughout the book ( )
