Tolkien in a fun way that will engage students. You learn fun facts about him, like that he could read by the age of four, loved languages, and roaming the British countryside, and how these and other details ended up influencing his writing. I enjoy the Who Was series as they engage all students, especially reluctant readers. The biographies also range from modern celebrities to influential historical people. 6. i was able to read this book in about an hour. I really enjoyed learning things I did not know about Tolkien. The way the book was written makes me want to read some of the other books in this series. 7. When our upper elementary and junior high students are doing research these would be great books to use. The bibliography at the back of the book would be very useful to find more information about their authors. I could do a mini lesson on how to use the bibliography. Best known for his epic Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Hobbit, J.R.R. Tolkien was born in British-occupied South Africa. His early life was full of action and adventure. Tolkien spent his childhood roaming the British countryside with his family and could read and write by age four. He was naturally gifted with languages and used this skill as a signals officers in World War II as well as in his fantasy writing. By creating alternate universes and inventing languages in his work he demonstrated that imaginary realms were not just for children. Fondly remembered as the "Father of High Fantasy," Tolkien's books have inspired blockbuster movies and legions of fans. Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |
