It's a story as old as the sea... western Men travel to Thailand and find themselves under the spell of the beautiful Thai women. Some of these men, so enchanted, fall deeply in love and take Thai brides as their life partners. This is just such a story: The story of British-born Mike Renshaw and his wife Panit, a Thai native. With humor and grace, Family Thais illustrates the cultural differences and misunderstandings which can wreak havoc on a union such as Mike and Panit's. It paints the portrait of the colorful characters that touch their lives. Somehow, Mike and Panit manage to circumnavigate these rocky waters and live a sweet and happy story of lifelong partnership and commitment. The author, Dr. Ian Mayo Smith is an Emeritus Professor of the University of Connecticut. While serving as Director of the Institute of Public Service International, he led a seven-year program providing management training for senior Thai government officials in Connecticut and in Thailand. The work involved extended visits to Thailand and during his tenure, Ian easily fell in love with the country and its wonderful people. Although this is a book of fiction, for decades, Ian has enjoyed the status of honorary farang member of a Thai family himself. Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |
