Rome a photographic tour is a captivating travel photography book dedicated to Rome, Italy, a city with a unique history. This photo book guides the reader through Rome's cultural life, the history, the architecture and the colors of this ancient city. It contours the portrait of the Italian "eternal city", in a visual way, through stunning high-resolution photographs, including 2 pages spreads, arranged in a fascinating tour book. Sit down, relax, and image you are there. Just look at the photographs and image you are there, the sounds you would hear in the background, the smells you would smell, the people you would meet. What do you feel when you look at the images? The photographs in this book are absolutely breathtaking. As a person that would love to travel but is afraid of flying this is about as close to Rome as I will ever get. The author not only captures the remarkable historical monuments but the everyday person just enjoying their day. One day maybe I will get over my fear of flying but until then I am able to travel to Rome by opening the pages of this book.

A beautiful study of The Eternal City. This photographic study is simply the finest way for those of us with neither the funds nor physical ability to tramp about Rome in the flesh to enjoy the wonders of antiquity! The colors are excellent and the views delightful. Videography is fine for post-tourists, but for the rest of us, still photos are best for close and/or recurrent study. Many thanks to LibraryThing Giveaways for this spectacular gift. ( )

This book is indeed a photographic tour of Rome showing 122 amazing photos as promised by the author. It provides the reader with a visual journey through the city showing clear details of the many historical features; some that I knew about but many that i didn't but which I now have a desire to see. Thanks to this book.
What I particularly liked was the brief description that accompanied each photo, both being numbered and making it easy to see what each description referred to. As for the photos themselves, I had no favorites as the majority were all equally superb.
providing the reader with interesting shots that were of high quality and clarity .
Upon receiving the book and viewing the first few photographs I could contain myself no longer and had to skim through the rest of the book to see what the next amazing photos would reveal. After going through the book a second time and at a more leisurely pace I have added Rome to my wish list of places that I must definitely visit in the near future. ( )

I received an ebook edition of this book through the LibraryThing Member Giveaway.

The photos in this collection are pretty much uniformly excellent. They're certainly far better than the snapshots I took when in Rome in 2001.

I do have some niggling issues though, probably due to my years as marking student papers. Why does the text accompanying each photo sometimes go out of order. The photos are all numbered consecutively, but the text at one place goes 55, 54, 56, 57, 58, 59, 63, 60, 62, 64, 66, 65, 68, 70, 71, 69, 72, for example. Why not keep the text in the same order as the photos?

The photos also don't seem to be sorted in any particular order. They certainly don't seem to be by theme or geographically. Perhaps at it is a "photographic tour" they could be sorted more logically. A map showing where the subject of each photo is located would be also be a nice addition.

Finally, a history buff such as myself would have liked more detail/more information in the text describing each photo.

But enough complaining. Overall, even though some photos are fairly small, they do scale up reasonably well when you zoom into the photos in the ebook edition. The larger photos, especially the two page spreads, are very beautiful and detailed.

Not quite, but almost as good as going to Rome. ( )
