A young child describes what it is like to be a migrant as she and her father travel north toward the U.S. border. They travel mostly on the roof of a train known as The Beast, but the little girl doesn't know where they are going. She counts the animals by the road, the clouds in the sky, the stars. Sometimes she sees soldiers. She sleeps, dreaming that she is always on the move, although sometimes they are forced to stop and her father has to earn more money before they can continue their journey.… (mehr)

This story is about a father and his daughter and their journey into the United States. The daughter questions the father about where they are going but doesn't usually receive an answer. In the end they use a coyote to get over the border and start their new life. I think that this would be a good book to teach children about immigration. I think that it would be a read aloud book, so that the teacher can answer questions, as there is some symbolism of animals as people.

This book would be good for primary or intermediate grades. This book follows a little girl and her father's journey as they try to get to America. I'm not sure I would use this book specifically in my classroom, one thing to note is that knowledge of children's backgrounds is important, this might be a sensitive topic for some. ( )

This book would be good for primary grades. It is about a child's story as they travel to the US. I would use this when talking about immigration.

I would read this to primary. This book is about a girl and her dad and she loves to count things and they are traveling and have to get off cars because of immigration and have to leave their home. I would use this book to show the harsheness of traveling and staying away from immigration.

This book is recommended for primary students. This book depicts a dad and a daughter as they begin to travel away from home to go to another country. In my future classroom I would use this book to introduce the topic of why somebody may want to leave their country and immigrate elsewhere. ( )
