Didn't really care for this book. The read along was like reading Mark Twain, a bit annoying. ( )

This story will tug at your heart strings. It’s a little long for story time but the right length for bedtime. Dewey is a raccoon who likes to collect things. But when his pants pocket no longer fits, he sets out in search of a new home, and new friends. Join Dewey on his adventure, and see if you don't want to sing and dance along. ( )

The book is about a raccoon that ventured out on his own to find his own pair of pants to live in. Along the way, he finds some different places to live. Eventually, he settles on a tree for his home, so he goes out and get a variety of found objects for his home and along the way he finds a new friend that he helps and becomes family with. ( )

This book is really intricately illustrated, full of both drawings and pictures that makes the "trash" in the book beautiful and interesting. This is the story of a raccoon leaving home and moving into a new house. After gathering odds and ends from the dump to decorate the house he starts to feel lonely. So he goes looking for a friend and finds "mud ball" who becomes his friend and housemate. This story illustrates the process of growing up and meeting new people through lines of rhyming dialogue and creative descriptions. This would be a great story to use in the classroom when talking about personal issues and times of transitions in students lives. I would love this book for my classroom and future students.

This book was a fiction book because it had the fantasy element of a smart and talkative raccoon who sang and collected things. He was born and lived in a pair of pants. The illustrations are made with acrylics, collage, and gouache. I would read this book to any school age from 1st through third grade. This book is a cute and lighthearted story about collecting friends and making the best out of life situations. I would use this in class to talk about friendships and how important it is to include people and make friendships while staying true to yourself. Some of the questions I would ask the children would be about is collecting items and what they collect. I could ask what experiences in life they wish they could put in a jar and save for later and could ask them if they ever craft and turn something into something new. As i show the pictures, I would ask them what craft supplies they see and if they have ever used these or seen them around the house (i.e thread, needle, meaduring tape, buttons) ( )
