Some people seem to find themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time...several times! These memories leave them with an ill taste in their mouths, and nothing good seems to come from them. But what if the seemingly messy pieces of life were actually strategically positioned by God? What if those people are actually in the right place at the right time every time? In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day will help make sense of tribulations. It will be possible to connect the dots to see clearly how God has been preparing for future opportunities. With a God's-eye perspective, it will soon be possible to thank Him, even for lions, pits, and snowy days.… (mehr)

"What if the life you really want and the future God wants for you are hiding right now in your biggest problem, your worst failure...your greatest fear?"

When you read a quote like that your ears perk up. Who doesn't have failure or problems? Who doesn't have fear? We live in a crazy time, in a crazy world, so it's easy to get focused on our circumstances and the world around us. We forget just how big our God really is.

In A Pit With A Lion On A Snowy Day is a book that caught me off guard. From the very first chapter I felt convicted. I knew this was going to be another book that would make me think about my own situation and it most certainly has!

The focus of the book is Benaiah and his encounter with a lion in a pit on a snowy day in 2 Samuel 23:20-21. If you were just reading through the Bible you would most likely miss it but Mr. Batterson delves deep into these two verses and explains what it means to be a lion chaser.

There are so many good quotes in this book! I love how the author makes all the concepts he explains so simple. There are a lot of computer and neurological comparisons that made the points the author is trying to convey even more understandable. At the end of each chapter there is a list of the major points that were discussed in that chapter (which are a perfect reference) as well as a "Starting Your Chase" question which really helps you delve deeper in your own personal lion chase.

This book was originally published ten years ago but the copy I received is a revised edition that has bonus material which I loved. It's a quick read with easy to understand language and personal stories from the author that make this story even more relatable.

Highly recommend!!! ( )

Success happens when opportunity meets preparedness.

This is such a great book. I've read it several times. Too often people miss what God wants them to do. Then there are those who know what God wants them to do, but feel inadequate for the task ahead and, as a result, either fail or never attempt to move forward in God's plans. Then there are those who chase lions... ( )

"It's almost like we are born with a chasing gene. It's part of our DNA. We need something to chase. ...We chase academic or athletic or artistic (or professional) goals. I believe God created us to chase lions, but too often that chase ends in miscarriage or misdirection. We stop chasing. Or we chase the wrong things that lead us down the wrong path. Maybe it is time to start chasing God again. Maybe it is time to seize God-ordained opportunities. Maybe it is time to unleash the lion chaser within."

Not a bad book. The author isn't an LCMS Lutheran, alas, so there are some things I would reword, and there is an odor of "theology of glory" where we concentrate on "theology of the cross." But I like much of what he is talking about - looking for opportunities the Holy Spirit brings our way. ( )

In this book Mr. Batterson discusses how sometime fear is our biggest obstacle to obtaining success. Sometimes we need to get in the pit and fight the lion. He talks about practical ways of trying things that we would be afraid of. He also talks about how God equips us along our journey to take big things. ( )
