The second in this well written, but little known Civil War series. Although written a century ago, the author writes in a succinct, modern style that will appeal to both the novice and those particularly interested in the American Civil War.

This book concerns the adventures of a young Federal soldier in the clashes at Forts Henry and Donaldson, culminating the more famous battle of Shiloh. The author writes historical fiction, yet each book in the series is closely based in fact. The reader will not only enjoy the work, but gain a great deal of knowledge about the war. ( )
