Clifford and Emily show up to a park where there happens to be a dog contest going on. Clifford joins the large dog contest, but has a difficult time completing the tricks because of how large he is. Clifford finally has the opportunity to make a large come back at the last event. Champ, Clifford's opponent, and Clifford has to slide down a water slide and make the largest splash possible. Clifford did wonderfully at this. But, when it was Champs turn, he found out he couldn't swim, so Clifford hurried to the rescue. The judges awarded Clifford a lot of points for saving Champ, but it was not quite enough to be crowned champion. That didn't stop Emily from being proud of her pal Clifford. This book is perfect to teach children about how to compete fairly against one another, and about how one should always help someone else in trouble, even if it is someone they don't necessarily like, or it is someone they are trying to beat. This book is also an incredible book to use to show children that it is not always about winning and losing, but doing the right thing and being proud of yourself for being the best you can be.
